The most common type of Polyrhachis ant found in Australia, Polyrhachis ammon can be found from southern Victoria up to Northern Queensland.
Featuring a striking golden armour of spikes, this species loves warm dry nests.
Whilst generally considered placid, Polyrhachis ammon will defend its nest with aggression if disturbed. They are also great climbers so care should be taken with escape prevention.
